Facebook 'Safety Check' lets friends know you're OK after disasters

When there are major disasters and traumatic incidences at events, everybody wants to know if their friends and family are OK. Facebook is coming out with a solution.

Surely you still remember all the choas that went down at the Pukkelpop festival? Shortly after the incident, entire mobile networks crashed because everyone was trying to get in touch with family and friends at the same time. Facebook is coming out with a solution that is going to work for natural disasters but could just as easily be used at festivals and mass conventions.

Safety Check automatically sends notifications to users located in the vicinity of the disaster area. Simply tapping the I'm safe / I'm not in the area button will notify all of your friends at once that you are safe and sound. If any of your friends are in the area impacted, then you'll get a summary showing everyone who's reported back and those who havn't.
